The Dream Team

Dock & Bay featured on Dragons' Den in 2017. After three generous offers from Tej Lalvani, Touker Suleyman and Deborah Meaden, and just a touch of excitement from Peter "But it's just a towel" Jones - Andy & Benno agreed to Deborah's investment offer. They are now working together on the next stage of this growing towel brand.

With revolutionary towels that have started a worldwide trend, what awaited these two towel entrepreneurs in the Dragons' Den

Earlier this year, Andy & Benno walked into Dragons’ Den to pitch Dock & Bay to a panel of five wealthy investors in front of a full team of camera crew whilst standing proudly next to their beloved towels.

Dragons' Den is the British equivalent of Shark Tank in USA and Australia.

Although daunting, they walked out alive. The show aired September 10th on BBC TWO TV at 9pm.

How do you think they fared?

Going into Dragons’ Den has to go down as the most surreal moment of my life. However prepared Benno and I were, we couldn’t prepare ourselves for walking into a room of successful entrepreneurs worth a combined total close to £300m. I’m still happy if I find £10 in my trousers.

When the producers told us we were ‘up next’, our mouths dried quicker than even our towels ever could. After a few initial hiccups, an hour and a half in the Den and being grilled on every part of the business, we walked out with the result we wanted and have worked hard to achieve. As well as a few grey hairs.

After being put through the ringer by the Dragons, we came out the other end with our pride in tact and a new friend as well (Deborah!). To receive 3 offers from highly respectable business people who work with highly successful global brands is just awesome and vindicates the years of work and the risks taken to bring our beach & travel towel concept to life.

Back to Sydney, back to the beach, back to work!

"When Andy and Benno unveiled their towels I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to be interested in their business. But these are not JUST towels, they are disruptive towels! Doing what towels have done for years only faster, lighter, more compact. The best kind of business..take a product everyone knows and uses and make it better. I could also see the business was in exactly the right hands. Not only do they know their stuff but they are their product so their authenticity shines through. I was very pleased when they accepted my offer... can’t wait to change the face of towels forever!"

Since filming for Dragons' Den and having signed the final agreement with Deborah, Andy & Benno are extremely excited for what lies ahead for Dock & Bay.

“We are really happy and privileged to have Deborah on board. Deborah really understands our vision of building a brand driven by a focus around lifestyle, aspirations and unique products. As we look to build on the growing trend where people are becoming more likely to spend their money on experiences and memories than the more tangible items of the past.”

“For us it was an easy decision as we were attracted by Deborah’s extremely strong credentials in building young businesses, as well as her passion for the environment, social causes and community. Deborah invests in people, as much as brands and businesses, and this makes us, and our growing team, really excited as we increase exposure of the brand worldwide, as well as build further into exciting new product ranges. Watch this space.”

Founded by Andy (UK) and Ben (Australia) in 2015, Dock & Bay have taken the traditional cotton towel and completely reinvented it for the better.

As travellers, they realised a traditional beach towel was too big and bulky while abroad, and standard travel towels were small and dull, and couldn’t be used at the beach. So they set out to make a product that they could be proud of and use while backpacking to all corners of the globe. As budding entrepreneurs, they took it upon themselves to look at how their newly-created product could be shared with the millions of travellers, beach goers, families and yoga lovers out there.

And here they are.
