If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times (or at least hundred): watermelons are freakin’ awesome. Think about it: they look awesome, they taste awesome, watermelon shower gel smells awesome and there’s literally nothing as awesome as biting into a juicy watermelon on a hot summer day. Nada. They’re one in a melon - and to show them some love, we went wild and made a watermelon towel.

Think of them as your favourite summer squeeze, perfect for beach days, back-to-back festivals, pool parties, camping adventures, BBQs, swimming, surfing and getting your 5 a day. And because we’ve made them, you get to enjoy all the usual high-fivable bonus points:

They dry three-times faster than normal cotton towels
They’re compact and lightweight so you can pack even more into your suitcase
Sand won’t stick to them (translation: the floor of your accommodation won’t become the next tourist hotspot)
There’s an elastic hook to make your life marginally easier
And they’re covered in watermelons: whole ones, halved ones, sliced ones, every kind of one. It’s a total woohoo moment.

So, to celebrate this most awesome of tooty-frooties (OMG, who remembers those?), we’ve been busy coming up with some reasons why watermelons need to be a massive part of your summertime vibes:

1. They Make The Most Mouthwatering Dishes

Watermelon, feta and arugula salad. Chorizo tostadas with watermelon serrano salsa. Watermelon, prosciutto and mozzarella skewers. Savoury bacon and balsamic watermelon salad. Tacos with tequila-soaked watermelon salsa. Grilled pork tenderloin with watermelon and feta pico. Honey-grilled watermelon caprese salad. There’s like a gazillion recipes that use this super-hydrating (and uber-healthy) treat and they’re totes gonna brighten up your summer menu.

2. They Make The Cutest Dresses. Ever.

Everyone that’s been on a summer vacay has noshed on a slice of watermelon at some point. It’s a gorgeous given. But what’s even more gorgeous is a #WatermelonDress. Yup. Everyone’s favourite summertime fruit has become the cutest Insta-trend since puppies started getting their own profiles. You simply grab yourself a slice of watermelon, nibble out a dress-like shape with your teeth and then use some camera-trickery to wear your new dress over your actual outfit - if you're, err, wearing one. Cute, clever and totally memorable (especially if you pop one of our Wild Watermelon towels in the back/foreground).

3. They Make The Best Pool Floats

Rhetorical question alert: who doesn’t want an inflatable watermelon to lounge around on during their next vacay? Picture this: the sun is shining, you’ve just eaten your bodyweight in feta salads, french fries and the local catch of the day, you’re tan needs topping up, the wannabe-DJ among your mates is playing some acid jazz (think Jamiroquai) and you’re laying on a 6ft watermelon float, with bae, while sipping on one of *these* cool frozen cocktails and chatting absolute nonsense. We can’t speak for everyone, but that’s the dream.

4. Let’s Talk Freezing Watermelon Slushies

Yep, this is our boss being very responsible.

When the sun is shining, there’s always time to make yourself a refreshing and colourful cocktail that’s as perfect for a swelteringly hot summer day as it is for your ‘gram - and that’s why we need to introduce you to this Frozen Watermelon Slush. We checked, and you sipping on one of these while laying on our Wild Watermelon towel will make you Insta-famous faster than you can say, “use the Clarendon filter.”

Ingredients:
3 cups of seedless watermelon
1 cup of frozen strawberries
2 scoops of lemon sorbet
¼ cup of pineapple juice
Splash of fresh lime juice
(Responsible amount of rum)

Directions:
Pop the watermelon, strawberries, sorbet, pineapple juice, and lime juice in your blender and whizz it up until and it looks smooth. Add the rum and stir well. Pour into 4 glasses. Mmmmm.

5. Pool Parties Need Jell-O Shots

If we know anything, it’s that there’s nothing that will entertain your pool party guests more than transforming a whole watermelon into a boozier version of itself. And it’s eas-ay. Simply cut your melon in half, scrape out the juicy-magic inside and then pour in your Jelly mix, extra gelatin and vodka (for reasons of drinking responsibly, we should say that this trick is just as fun without booze, although it probably isn’t). Once you’ve done this, pop it in the fridge (or re-fridge-err-ay-tor for our American friends) and let it set. Voila. You’re now ready to slice it up so that it looks like you’re just eating normal watermelon wedges.

6. Watermelon Can Be Grilled

Serve your mates a bunch of fresh (and raw) watermelon slices and you’ve succeeded in serving a total crowd pleaser. So imagine the hero status you’ll be granted when you toss a load of watermelon onto your Bae-B-Q and give this summertime fruit a yummy twist. All you’ve gotta do is brush some olive oil over it, season with salt and pepper and give it a couple of minutes on the grill. Gamechanger.

7. They Make Great Boozy Snacks

Like asking the DJ for J-Kwon’s ‘Tipsy’ in a nightclub, wearing Female Body Inspector t-shirts to house parties and asking for the usual at your favourite kebab shop, some things were meant to be retired the day you graduated university. Thankfully, turning a watermelon into a booze bomb is not one of those. Instead, they’re absolutely perfect for beach barbecues and pool parties. Simply cut a hole in the top (if watermelons have a top), loosen the insides a bit, pour 1 and 1/2 cups of vodka into the melon, pop it in the fridge overnight and then serve in slices. Dee-lish.

8. And Really Healthy Kids Snacks

There isn’t a kid on the planet that won’t go bananas for a plate of watermelon. And imagine how cute the photos of them sat by the pool, on a watermelon towel, in their little swimmers, eating a slice of refreshing melon will look. Adorable.
